Prof. Joshua Baraban

PI

Joshua Baraban is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheva, Israel, and began there in 2017. His research group focuses on laser spectroscopy and high temperature chemistry. He received his B.S./ M.S. in Chemistry from Yale College in 2006 with Prof. J. Michael McBride, followed by graduate work at MIT (Ph.D. Physical Chemistry, 2013), on high resolution gas phase spectroscopy in the group of Prof. Robert W. Field. He was then a postdoctoral researcher with Profs. G. Barney Ellison and John W. Daily (UC-Boulder), where he developed an optically accessible pyrolysis microreactor.

Dr. Illya Rozenberg

Staff Scientist/Lab Manager

I was born in central Kazakhstan in 1985, and since 1995, am living in Beer-Sheva.

I did all my degrees (from BSc to PhD) at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev under the supervision of Prof. Gabriel Lemcoff in the fields of organic, organometallic, and polymer chemistry.

In 2018 I joined the groups of Prof. Josh Baraban and Prof. Idan Hod in the Department of Chemistry of BGU as a Lab Manager and Staff Scientist.

My hobbies are digital drawing and graphic design (including even scientific equipment design), and I am a faithful supporter of the Hapoel Beer-Sheva and Real Madrid football clubs.

Avi Lehrer

Lab Technician

I'm 63 years old, from Be'er Sheva, married with 3 kids.

I've studied electronics in highschool and recieved a practical engineering degree in electro-optics from the Technological College.

I've worked in the Negev Nuclear Research Center for 33 years in the field of optics, including spectroscopy and lasers operation and specialized in optics and lasers over the years.

My hobbies include history, especially military history, different cultures and sports of any kind.

Itai Kallos

Ph.D. student (jointly with Prof. Ilana Bar (Physics, BGU))

Mr. Itai Kallos received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in physics from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev under the supervision of Prof. Ilana Bar on elucidating the structural motifs of non-volatile biomolecules via spectroscopy techniques and quantum calculations.

He is currently undertaking graduate work (Ph.D. in Physics) under Dr. Baraban and Prof. Ilana Bar. He is working on a novel spectroscopic technique for recording the rovibronic spectra of radicals in the Baraban group.

Sharona Atlas

Ph.D. student

I have over 25 years of diverse experience in process and chemical engineering, R&D, multi-disciplinary projects management, technology and business development.

I hold 3 degrees, all from BGU: B.Sc in chemical engineering, M.Sc in inorganic chemistry and M.B.A from Business School.

Currently I am a PhD student. My goal is to explore plasma chemistry and spectroscopy.

I am married and have 3 kids.

Michael Muzika

Ph.D. student

I am a BGU graduate - I have a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in chemistry. I'm building a photo ionization TOF-MS, which will allow us to detect the complete profile of high temperature reaction products. In my free time I enjoy reading, mountain biking and hiking.

Nadav Genossar-Dan

Ph.D. student

I studied my BSc in chemistry in Tel Aviv University, and my MSc in the Baraban group.

My PhD research is theoretical, and focuses on calculations of thermochemical, kinetic and spectroscopic properties of the various species involved in high temperature mechanisms, with special emphasis on radicals. We apply advanced, non-traditional quantum chemical methods for the description of challenging systems, such as non-rigid vibrations and non-adiabatic states.

In my free time I enjoy running, hiking and playing the bass.

Maayan Cohen

M.Sc. Student

I have my B.Sc. in chemistry from BGU. My goal is to explore molecular spectroscopy.

In my free time I enjoy painting, biking and reading.

Dana.jpg

Dana Fux (Bresker)

Ph.D. student

I have a BSc degree in chemistry from BGU. I joined the lab as an undergraduate student and stayed for my MSc degree. My research is about high temperature chemistry (pyrolysis and combustion) with spectroscopic methods.

I was born and lived in Beer Sheva my entire life. In my free time I like to travel.

Shani Har Lavan

Ph.D. student

I have graduated both my B.Sc and M.Sc from BGU. Now in my Ph.D I keep on investigating decompositions and mechanisms of hydrocarbons in cold plasma, using

in-situ diagnostics which I find very fascinating.

I also love swimming, snowboarding, music and art.
